Rail Transportation Expertise

ART provides whole lifecycle rail engineering capabilities support to the rail industry including design houses/consultancies, suppliers, integrators, operators and maintainers.
ART is currently working on multi-billion pounds rail projects both in the United Kingdom and Internationally and is providing Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance resource and expertise to railway systems integrators, rail infrastructure providers (including stations, shafts and portals), rail systems providers, railways operators and maintainers.

Enterprise asset management

Rail Infrastructure Projects

Our rail engineering knowledge and techniques will cut project risk, improve performance, and ensure that operational costs are aligned throughout the project life cycle.
The ART Safety Assurance team has significant experience in providing robust safety and reliability assessments for clients. We have extensive experience in the standards and processes (including EN 50126, 50128, 50129, IEC 61508) and the requirements for safety case development, approval and safety assessments and have a successful track record of implementation. On selected projects and special arrangements, we are also able to operate as an AsBo under European Common Safety Method (CSM) regulations and Notified Body (NoBo) on conformity against Technical Specification for Interoperability (TSI’s).

Signalling

We employ a thorough and systematic process of safety assurance combined with essential discipline specific experience to ensure that signalling products and systems achieve acceptable or tolerable safety levels before operational use. ART offers in-house and independent design assurance and design risk assessments to support client designs:
Signalling design compliance
Conceptual design statements
Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM)
Safety Integrity Level evaluation and verification
Functional failure analysis and management

Technical Safety & Risk Management

Our approach ensures that our experienced engineers and rail professionals can help rolling stock manufacturers, owners and equipment suppliers to:
Optimise the performance of vehicles
Improve energy efficiency – for example via the integration of novel energy storage systems
Extend the life of ageing rolling stock
Develop new solutions to engineering problems and
Project management of complex engineering change programmes.

Rolling Stock

Our approach ensures that our experienced engineers and rail professionals can help rolling stock manufacturers, owners and equipment suppliers to:
Optimise the performance of vehicles
Improve energy efficiency – for example via the integration of novel energy storage systems
Extend the life of ageing rolling stock
Develop new solutions to engineering problems and
Project management of complex engineering change programmes.

Optimizing Operational Performance

Our experienced engineers and rail professionals can help train operators and depot managers to:
Optimise maintenance strategies
Enable rolling stock life extensions
Access technical innovation funding
Develop rolling stock strategies for franchise bids
Combine the complexities of operations, resources and timetables to optimise and plan the maintenance of trains through depot infrastructure.

Government Rail Organisations

We support the delivery of a wide range of rail projects on behalf of government including rail franchising, research analysis and modelling.
We have supported the delivery of a wide range of rail franchising projects on behalf of the UK Department for Transport (DfT).
Develop systems implementation strategies, test, operational and maintenance safety cases for the introduction of new equipment, technology, vehicles and systems
Encourage and enable businesses in the rail industry to innovate
Understand cyber security risks, and develop strategies for the integration of cyber risks into the rail safety case system
Define the requirements for new rail equipment, to enable safe and effective deployment into the Network
Develop the requirements for rail franchise competitions, including comparator reviews, franchise financial modelling, and franchise bid evaluation.
